Copy Image Alt to Image Title in WordPress Media Library

In most cases, it won’t be required but if you have well-written Alt texts for your images in the media library, and want to replace respective title texts with the Alt texts; you have come to the right place.

I have created a simple WordPress plugin that automatically copies/syncs Alt text to image titles in your media library — with just the click of a button. The plugin is called ALT2Text, and it’s completely free to use.

Using the ALT2Text plugin

First, download the latest version of the plugin from the official GitHub repo in ZIP format and simply install it on your WordPress. The complete process would be something like:

ALT2Title
  • Download the ZIP file from the latest release.
  • Log in to your WordPress admin panel.
  • Go to Plugins > Add New > Upload Plugin.
  • Choose the downloaded ZIP file and click “Install Now”.
  • After installation, click “Activate Plugin”.
  • In your WordPress admin panel, go to Tools > ALT2Title.
  • Click the “Process Images” button to update all image titles in your media library.
ALT2Title Usage

I have tested the plugin with over 600 images in my media library (see the above screenshot) and it worked perfectly. But I recommend testing it on a staging/test site before using it directly on the production site.

Final words

To wrap up, the ALT2Text plugin is a handy tool for WordPress users who want to quickly copy their image Alt text to image titles. It’s easy to use, free and can save you a lot of time if you have many images to update.

This plugin can be a great help in keeping your media library organized and improving your website’s accessibility.
