Followers vs. Following: What’s the Difference?

The main difference between followers and following is that followers receive updates from you whereas following enables you to receive updates from others.

Before we move to more differences, let’s first understand Followers and Following:

  • Followers: Followers refer to people who have subscribed to receive regular updates from your social media account.
  • Following: Following pertains to the accounts that you have subscribed to receive updates from.

Now, let’s get to Followers vs Following:

Major differences between Followers and Following

Followers Following
Followers can see your social media posts on their feeds. You get to see posts from your followings on your own feed.
You can control who you follow but not who follows you. Followers can follow and unfollow you whenever they want without requiring your approval.
Followers interact with your content through likes, shares, and comments. When you follow an account, you receive updates in your feed and you can interact with their content similarly.
The number of followers one has typically indicates popularity or influence. The quantity of following an account has typically suggests a diverse range of interests.
Following allows you to keep track of your interests and discover new ones. Followers enable you to reach a larger audience with your own content.

So, these are the main differences between the entities.
